Ndaroini AA Washed Coffee | Nyeri, Kenya | Bright Acidity, Orange Zest & Chocolate

Sourced from one of Kenya's highest paid coffee farmers in  Nyeri County, near Karatina, this classic washed Kenyan AA comes from a cooperative with a story worth telling. Built in 1984 by a group of farmers tired of traveling long distances to deliver their cherry, "Ndaroini" means "place of rest" in  Gikuyu. Unlike most Kenyan factories operating under a larger Farmers Cooperative Society, Ndaroini is independently farmer-run, now owned collectively by roughly 700–1,400 smallholder growers who each hold shares in the company and vote annually for their leadership.

This is a clean, traditional washed process: ripe cherries are hand-sorted, pulped the same day, and fermented for 12–18 hours before washing and grading. The parchment then dries slowly on raised beds for 10–14 days, the textbook Kenyan method that produces clarity and precision in the cup.

The result is a bright, juicy AA with vibrant acidity, notes of orange zest, and a light chocolate finish, a benchmark expression of what makes Nyeri coffee so prized among washed Kenyans.

Varietals: SL28, SL34, and Ruiru 11 (Arabica)

Process: Fully washed

Grade: AA

Tasting notes: Bright acidity, juicy orange zest, light chocolate finish

Brewing recommendation: A clean, washed coffee like this shines as a pour over, where its acidity and clarity come through clean and precise.
